Update-Psych appointment

Well, today I had my EARLY (8:30am) appointment with my psychiatrist. So, I told him everything that has been going on with me. That I'm in a constant state of anxiety/panic and also that I'm getting the panic attacks daily. He's given me Valium. I've never been on this med, and true to form, I'm scared about side effects so I haven't taken it yet. :(

I've never taken it either but I hear that it's almost instant relief from anxiety. I'm thinking this will be a good go to when your having really bad days.

Hey Princessmel,

Looking at your signature, it looks like you have taken Xanax, which is good news! Valium is in the same exact class as a benzodiazepine. From what I have come to understand, it is a little slower to kick in, and lasts a little longer.

If there is a benzo, I have taken it. They are feel about the same and have about the same side effects. If you handled Xanax well you will have no problem at all with Valium. Plus, it is an older medication that we have lots of knowledge on. All things considered, it is one of the safer drugs.

As hard as it can be, and I know it can be hard, trust your doctor. I hate new medications, or even just adjusting dose, because it freaks me out... always. But, at the end of the day, we really need to trust their expertise and that they have our best interest at heart.

Yup...Jolleg is right...you will not feel much different than you did with your Xanax Rx.:) Go for it! Take it at home where you feel secure, and can just go to bed if it makes you drowsy.

Glad to hear you had a good appointment.:) Will you also be doing therapy with your P-doc?

I hope that this visit is the start of a great time of recovery for you...keep us posted!

Glad to hear your appointment went well and as the others have said the Valium is not that different from your Xanax so give it a go. I used to be on Valium and to be honest found it to be a great medication to treat my anxiety and I wish I was still on it.

I've taken Valium twice and both times I have felt incredibly relaxed. Actually more so than Xanax. If I were you m, I would try not to worry about taking it and instead try to be excited about the possibility of some relief from your daily panic!! Good luck and let us know when you've tried it!
