Breakthrough Anxiety...Options?

Hey I have been in Paxil for 10 years now 40mg...recently I have had a few months of major stress and I am now haveing lots of anxiety, doc has put on on klonopin .5 but I am scared and will only take half of that...debating on up dosage of Paxil to 50 mg temporarily...any suggestions

Hi Cnight and welcome!

I am sorry to hear that you have had a recent increase of anxiety. This can happen, and there are a few options that you can try to deal with this breakthrough anxiety.

If you are worried about taking the Klonopin, then your halving it is good way to ease into taking a new med. How does the 2.5 work for you? If you have tolerated it well...then why not try the whole dose this weekend, where you can stay home and see how it affects you? Chances are, you will just feel more relaxed, and perhaps a little drowsy.

Upping your Paxil is could work...what did your doctor have to say about this possibility. This is getting up towards the maximum dose however...so you may want to hold off on this move until you have exhausted other methods of relief.

Which brings me to coping skills/therapy. Have you tried this method of treatment? We have a bunch of self-help recommendations in our Resources here that you could get started on right away. Find them on the main page, 1st thread...or let me know you're interseted and I'll post a direct link for you...

Using these techniques everyday can really make a difference! Also therapy for the long term is a good discussion to have with your doctor if you've not done so already.

Well when i had my little boy I had to up my dose and was able to go back down again after a few months, my doc says that panic episodes come and go and that sometimes the klonopin will give the Paxil a boost...4 years ago I was concerned that it had stopped working but he told me it didn't it just needed a kickstart and put me on the klonopin for a few weeks, and it worked. I just need fast relief, I misssed a whole work week, I tend to shut down when these things hit...I have been under a tremendous amount of stress for about 2 months...my 4 year old got choked and then had a stomach virus shortly after and now is afraid to eat, he will only eat yogurt and noodles and it has worried me sick, the Drs say he will eat when he is ready:/. If you could please send me the link so I could try some of the self help techniques!! Thank you
