I read an article in shape magazine saying a full eye exam could see if you had a brain tumor or aneurysm . Anyone know if there is truth behind this. Would certainly give me some piece of mind.

Hi there,

The last time I had a detailed eye exam (when my hubby had operation, I decided to undergo a good eye check up) dr told me that they can detect some other conditions, which are not necessarily related to the eyes directly.

But she didn't name any condition, unfortunately. So I can't say anything about the names you mentioned.

Sure it can......*IF* the aneurism happens to be within the eye. The eye is a closed system and not a window to the brain. An annual eye exam can detect troubles but I am afraid that tumors within the brain and aneurisms are not typically within the scope. MRI and other scans look for such issues.

A good eye exam can find other problems, as Rrakkma said. It was the opening warning of my husbands blood illness. His prescription was 40* off within two weeks, so he was referred to another specialist who found the trouble.

I do not believe that it can rule out a brain tumor or an aneurysm but I know that it sometimes done as the first step before an mri. Before my son received his epilepsy dialog they thought he may have a brain tumor. They gave him an eye exam before his MRI.

I had a regular ct but it just doesn't seem to be good enough for me so im grasping straws at hopes this is nothing serious

if your ct came back clean then it us probably your anxiety/stress.

agree with daesin. i have eye issues. had many procedures and surgery. tumor an mri would be the best bet.
