So I've been having this ache pain in my chest for a couple weeks, so I went to the dr yesterday and she ran a ekg and blood test. The ekg was perfect she said, and I got the results from my blood test this morning. She said the heart part was perfect, BUT I have too much Iron in my blood and she thinks it might be Hemochromatosis but she needs to run one more test to be sure. This is NOT what I want, the results are giving my anxiety a boost and I'm not sure how to react. It can cause liver, heart and pancreas problems. I might need to have blood drawn, about a pint every month to lower the iron in my blood. But I'm scared of what the lasting effects can turn into. Please prayer that the other test comes back that I don't have it.

Hi Lisa

Pleased that you have been to your doctor I have not heard of Hemochromatosis so can't really comment but it sounds like it is something which can be treated which is good news. I understand why this has made you anxious and hope that your tests come back clear.

AL,

Often first test results will be off/wrong...and that is why they re-test!

Focus on the good news portion or your tests...which is the majority of your results, yeah!! :)

Try not to worry about anything else until you get a definitive answer one way or the other.

When will you go in for your next test? Hopefully a.s.a.p. to alleviate your anticipatory anxiety.

For now use this mantra when if you start to focus on it.

"It's not time to worry about that right now."

...and shift your attention to something else to stay distracted.

We are here for you, so post as needed.

I am pretty confident that your second test is going to show that all is well.:)

S.C. -She already put in for the second test on the blood they already had so I should hear the results later today or tomorrow at the latest. My test results were pretty high, so I'm not sure if there is a mistake but will wait until I hear the new results before I really freak out, lol.

Still waiting for test results from dr but I keep googling hemachromatosis and I have to admit it's scaring me. I know I shouldn't google but I need to know what I'm up against. I wish my Dr would hurry up and email me, so I can stop stressing, or stress even more, whichever way I just want answers.

We are here for you!! Let us know as soon as you can. I am hoping to be able to take a deep breath of relief with you and say *phew!*...that was a scare!

...but on the off chance that it comes back postive for the hema...know that it is treatable, and the prognosis good with monitoring and care.

At least the Ekg came back to give you some piece of mind. Try to not worry about the next results until you know for sure. I've had 2nd tests done and they've come back negative.

I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Well Doctor finally sent me a email this morning, the new test came back Perfect ... so she says I don't have Hemochromatosis. But wants to watch my iron levels closely. So all is good for now. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts, they helped!!!!!! :)

I always think the worst case when it comes to my health, mostly cause I'm a smoker and I KNOW I'm hurting my body, but it's sooooooo hard to quit.

I had a feeling! You did not mention a hereditary risk...which is pretty much indicative that you were going to re-test fine...

...as well as simply being female (lowers your risk) as well as your age.:) (you are a bit too young for this condition, generally speaking)

Actually I'm probably older then you think I am, lol. I close to 50, well not for 2 years but it's coming fast, lol. Thanks for the happy thoughts! And ya I don't have heredity risk factors, but I tend to think I'm coming down with anything my dr suggests, she really needs to learn to not tell me this stuff until she knows for sure, lol.

Hey two years is still two years!! I am hitting the 45 this year...so I am not far behind ya! ;p

The years may go faster at this stage in life...but technically speaking...you are still too young! ;)

LOL I'll take it.

I still have the un-diagnosed chest pains as of now, We don't know what the pain is from yet, if it doesn't go away she is going to send me for another stress test. But I just had one in April of 2014 so it still should be good, but who knows. She wants me to take a nitro next time it happens, but thing is it never lasts for more then a minute or so, so it's usually over by the time I think of grabbing a nitro. If the nitro helps, then it is for certain something to do with my heart.

I know it isn't anxiety, my anxiety is been pretty low the last couple of weeks that this has been happening.

Have you considered costochrondritis? Have you had a recent chest cold/cough/virus?

How about just a physical strain? I have had some nasty muscle pulls in that area that hang on!

I've thought about costochrondritis, i never heard about it until I came to these forums, although I haven't talked to my dr about it. I will do that when I see her next. I haven't had a cold in months and it was pretty mild, only lasted a couple of days. I also thought about a strain, but it isn't like a pulled muscle, this is just a achey type pain that only lasts a minute or 2 but it happens thru out the day and at night while I'm lieing in bed. Usually deep breathing and physical activity set it off.

So I emailed my doctor and asked if the chest pains could be costochrondritis and she said Yes, that she thinks it might be. So I'm happy I guess, that it isn't more serious, lol. I'm such a pessimist.

That's pretty good news!

I mean, if it has to be something...;/

You know what I mean...like you said, it is not serious, but can cause some discomfort for sure.

However, I am wishing for you a pain free weekend...and a time to relax and enjoy your relief about your test.:)
