Anxiety from being victim of tax fraud

I am the victim of tax fraud and it is causing me extreme anxiety. To add to that, everytime I speak with the IRS I am now told that the conversation is recorded. I worry that I may have said something wrong or talked too much. Do they use these conversations against you. Sounds crazy I know.

This is the first time this has happened to me and I am very paranoid about it!

If you told the IRS something like you got your best friend to steal your identity, then you should move out the country.

But if you told them the truth...which is a story they've hear thousands of times.... then you have nothing to worry about.

From what I understand, it can take several months to get this cleared up...So be strong and get the job done.

I am really sorry to hear of all that you are going through! How terrible for you.:(

Steve is right. You've nothing to hide, so try to put the recording out of your mind, and just stay as relaxed as possible while you are on the phone. No one is judging you...it is simply a procedure...

...and one mostly to assure quality service on their side!

I wish you a quick and easy resolution to your problem! :)

I just want to thank you all for being so kind and understanding. I have begun to be so paranoid with everyone since then. It's like I've lost my sense if trust. I will, however, rise from this. Thank you, once again, for your support.

The best...

...of course you would lose trust! It is a terrible violation to have your identity stolen from you! The worst feeling, and I am again sorry...and wish the best and quickest resolution possible.

Welcome The best, I'm happy you found us but so sorry for your situation. Identity theft is the biggest crime of the 21st century that's for sure. I know a couple others that went to file taxes and found out there was already a tax return filed for them, it sucks big time.

Don't worry about being recorded, anytime you talk to a government office, whether it is county, city, state of federal it is being recorded, it is to assure you are getting good quality of service, like SC said above.

I will keep you all posted and thanks so much for your support. I did not mention that because my taxes were filed two days after theirs, the fraudulent tax return was not paid out.
