Suggestion on how to speak up to my therapist

Every time I have an appointment to see her she pulls me from the waiting room 7-8 minutes past the appointed hour and yet still ends it at 10 minutes before the hour. What I'm saying is that my appointment gets cut short. After 6 or so times of that I've lost a whole appointment and yet have paid for.

It's hard to get an appointment with her. I only get to have 1 or 2 per month so I want my full time allotment.

I'm going to say something but my fear is she will think I'm complaining or cheap. I do think about the money because these appointments are very expensive.

Any advice?

This is kind of common... It's like a reverse "bakers dozen."

She needs to make notes about the visit with the prior person... Go pee pee... etc etc .... Get more coffee and then is ready for you...

But, next time you could say something like "it looks like we're getting off to a late start...hope you don't cut me short on my fifty minutes."

I thought about that but they get 10 minutes between each appointment to do those things.

the late ones are actually the best ones. i make my appt with my therapist for straight after his lunch. a little tip for ya. plus with being well fed they are on there game. i said that to my therapist when i went to the office and we were arranging the next appt. they laughed made the appt, and he said same time. i laughed, yes!!! keep well.

Yes this is something you need to raise with your therapist and be assertive they should be giving you the allocated amount of time that you are paying for.

I did it! I spoke up. That is part of my fear/anxiety, speaking up for myself.

She explained and sort of laughed that she tends to run late but she will make sure I get my 50 minutes. She doesn't want to cut off that last person if they are mid story or she needs to address something etc.

For me, I feel undervalued if anyone doesn't respect my appt. time whether you are cutting my hair or saving my life.

I think in the future she will do better at making sure I get my alloted time.

High fives my friend! Well done on speaking up for the time that you pay for, and is rightfully yours!!

As a professional...if I ever start a class late due to unforseen circumstances, I run it over to make up the time (I have a 10 minute buffer in between classes) If I did not...I would expect I would be hearing from the students/parents!

Things do come up...and appointments run late, but you should always get your due time
