anxiety is back

I was panic attack free for over a year felt great, but i just took 8 attacks in the last 5 days. I was on Fluoxetine up until 11 months ago, two days ago i was put on sertraline 50mg, i have serious head pressure, eye pain. split second dizziness and a slight feeling of decentralization how long before i find any difference? maybe a week or so from now?

Hi Alba,

I'm sorry to hear your anxiety is back, and sorry to hear you are having side effects from starting the sertraline.

Side effect of starting an AD usually last 2 to 3 weeks, if they get worse or don't go away after 3 weeks, a talk with your doctor would be good.

Please understand that it take a good 6 to 8 weeks before you will see full potential of the sertraline, it needs to build up to a therapeutic dose before you'll see the true benefit of it, so stick with it if you can.

Look at the resource thread (top thread on the forum) for some coping skills to do while you are going thru the side effects of this medication.

Hi Alba,

I am sorry to hear that your start up has been a bit of a rough beginning.:( This is not unusual however, and some even say a harbinger of an Rx that is going to ultimately prove helpful.

May I ask why you discontinued the Fluoxetine, and are now starting back on an SSRI again?

Do you remember what your effects were when you originally started...how long the increased anxiety lasted?

You can probably expect similar results since this Sertraline is in the same family.

I second A.L.'s suggestion about using the great help in our Resources to make your transistion as comfortable as possible...

Sorry to hear your anxiety/panic has returned.

Changing medication can be a tough time and unfortunately it's the norm to get worse before you start to feel better again but this should improve in a couple of weeks go back and speak with your doctor.
