I have not had much friends but finally have a great friend. We have a lot in common. We even share the same name. She is having family problems and she wants to end the world. Yesterday I talked her out of suicide about five times. This is hard on me. I am scared and my anxiety is never ending. Any suggestions are welcome.

Sorry you are in this position, I know first hand how hard it is. However you can't "save" her, she can only help herself now. Is she in therapy? If not perhaps you can suggest she goes, as we both know therapy is a life saver.

I really don't know what else you can do, besides listen to her and try to get her into therapy, but here are some numbers and websites you can give her.

National Suicide Hotline
1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433)
This is a combined network of the Amerian Association of Suicidology, the National Hopeline Network, CONTACT USA, and many other organizations. Call are automatically routed to the nearest crisis center to the phone from which the call for help is placed.

Hi CB,

I am really sorry to hear about your friend. I do hope that she gets the help that she needs!

Are you minors? If so, do her parents know of her depression and self-harm thoughts?

If not, you would be a good friend to encourage her to share with them...or if you feel she is truly in crisis...then you will need to tell them, so she can get the help she needs.

If you are adults, then enoucouraging her to get help, and giving her the above resources as A.L. provided is key.

I also hope that you are in a strong enough place yourself to be of support without adding to your own anxiety. Be careful to keep yourself in good care with your coping skills, and watch your own health please...
