J.G.,
I understand...at the height of my anxiety, my youngest daughter was a toddler...and a Dr. Suess fan. "Oh Say Can You Say." was one of her favorites...and frequent bedtime request. As you can imagine...I tripped and stumbled through this many times. I too thought I was afflicted with some scary neurological disease...or the big brain 'C'.
Less than one percent of the popultation will ever develop a brain tumor in their lifetime. Let's compare this with the amount of people with health anxiety who will have a brain tumor worry at some point...let's say it's around....IDK...100% ;p (I dont' actually have the second percentage, just making an educated guess, lol!)
Seriously though, this does kind of put the possibility in perspective right? You are way more likely to be suffering an effect of anxiety than anything else.:)
To further illustrate how our anxious brains work...consider this.
Your friend had a brain tumor (and btw, I am really sorry to hear this!!) and this has caused the fear to come much more close to home for you.
However, if another friend won the lottery...would you quit your job and start shopping for islands to buy...because you assume that you will naturally be next to win big?
Of course not!
...but we do focus on the negative/scary things we hear or see others going through!
Use your coping skills to get you through these worries. Postive mantras work really well...as do general stress relieving exercises...and the self help for health anxiety found in our Resources.
Keep posting with us...we'll keep you encouraged.
