Hi all,
Thought I'd post an update on my situation:
I was on Paxil for about
4 months and exercising regularly, everything was going well but I was "foggy" and struggling a little at work with concentration. 4 weeks ago a doc swapped me to 20mg Lexapro and all seemed good. Then I got really sick with bronchitis and I have had daily anxiety for about
2 weeks now. I'm putting it down to not exercising and self medicating with alcohol :(
I went back to the doc and he wanted to increase my dose to 40mg or swap to Zoloft if that didn't work. I increased my dose yesterday to 30mg (40 seemed a BIG jump to me). Just wondering what people's experiences are with swapping meds and the time it takes to kick in and the dosage increase?
How long should I stay with Lexapro?
On a side note I found a really good psyh and have made great progress with talk therapy and mindfulness. I'm keen to sort the meds out as I feel like I will have a really good chance of coming off them completely in the near future.
Would be interested in peoples's opinions :)

Hi AD
Thanks for your update but sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the moment.
Lexapro is a good medication imo so I would stick with it for a while longer as it can take upto 8 weeks to fully kick in and swapping medications has it's complications. it is my understanding that 20mg was the max dose for Lexapro so I agree 40mg sounds very high but I do know that psychiatrists do prescribe above max dosage my pdoc is wanting me to goto 80mg of Prozac which is above max dose. I always try and give medication a couple of months before I decide if I want to change or increase.
Pleased to hear you are finding therapy and mindfulness helpful keep going with that as that is what will make the biggest difference.

Yay A.D. on finding a therapist and starting your recovery in this way! Sending encouragement to keep going with it!!
I wish you well also on staying with your current...or finding the right Rx for your needs. Hoping the benefits you seek start soon either way.
Keep up the great work, and update when you can. You are doing really well! :)

Thanks for the replies :)
I'm doing good, so much better from when it started 12 months ago, it's a journey and no quick fix but I'm getting there.

Frustrating thing is, I've been through all this before starting Paxil and got through it, dovtor failed to mention that even though I swapped straight over, I may get all the startup issues again.

Hoping you have some improvement tomorrow!
Be encouraged that it is temporary...and you have a goal of feeling your best on the other side of this start up.:)

OK, so up to about
week 6 now on 30mg Lexapro, I'm glad I stuck it out, anxiety has pretty much gone.
Hopefully this is the one for me :)

Thankyou all.
Will keep everyone updated, but powering through work and feeling good, just need a day off soon, been working weekends. No wonder we get anxiety in the modern world, too much to do.
