Lithium for Anxiety

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else uses Lithium to treat anxiety and if they have had any success. I am on a low dose after trying an array of different meds that didn't work at all. Xanax was like taking a glass of water. So far Lithium seems to help. It is such an old drug used for so many other things (I am not bipolar ect)...but just dealing with various autoimmune diseases and the anxiety that comes along with it. Do any of you take it and at what dose?

hi and welcome. lithium is not for anxiety-it is for bi-polar disorders in the main.

i have used it off label for anxiety occasionally and it does help. a low dose of 300mg is what works for me

It sounds like this was prescribed after much trial an error of the more traditional anxiety Rxs...A/D's and benzos...

So your doctor is likely reaching for something that will give you relief...and this seems to be a good fit?

Do you see a P-doc for this prescription...and will you be monitored since this is a 'black box' medication?

If so, I would say that you are in a good place, and finding this match is a positive step forward.:)

Hi

I have not heard of Lithium being used to treat anxiety but I can see that it would help as it is a mood stabiliser so I hope it works well for you.
