It's been very educational reading everyone's post about quitting sertraline (zolcroft). I have been on 50mg for almost 3 years as I was having really bad panic attacks (palpitations) and negative thoughts. However, for the past 1 year 5 mths I have been making a positive effort with my diet and exercise and also watching my thoughts; that I feel it's time to come off the medication.
Yes, I also put on weight but I am now 4 days off the sertraline. I went from 50mg to 25mg for one week. Then I stopped altogether. I went to see a nutrition/ex-pharmacist about stopping meds. He prescribed me some natural products 'Adrenoplex' and 'SB Floractiv' by BioCeuticals. The first one is to support the whole serotonin levels and the second one is to help with gut flora. The aim is to only have the two if my diet is not giving me enough to cope with the anxiety.
So far so good. I am a little dizzy with the occasional brain zap but I kind of like the feeling. I know I'm crazy but hey may as well enjoy the ride. I'm hitting the gym hard and I have a jiu-jitsu competition coming up in one months time. So I'm hopeful that I'll be able to make enough of my own serotonin rather than rely on meds. I've increased salmon, cheese, nuts, krill oil, and eggs in my diet.
However, I have been a little impatient but I hope this will pass. I'm a teacher so I hope all goes well when I'm back at school. Thanks for sharing guys. I might try the Benadryl. How much do I take and when?
