Temazepam for Anxiety?

Hello all,

I was wondering if any of yall had tried this for anxiety as a subsistute of xanax or another benzo and if it works.

Humble,

It's my understanding that this benzo is prescribed primarily as a sleep aid (Restoril) and would be only given as a short term prescription.

Has your doctor prescribed this, or are you just researching?

Hi

Yes I was prescribed 20mg Temazepam for sleep which is what it is mainly prescribes for.

In my opinion there is better options.

My doctor talked to me and said it could be worth a try if I wanted to .

Is it like a knockout type medicine or one where I could still get my work done. For example if I feel anxious at 3:00pm, it is going to put me to sleep?

Researching online is skeptical as usual. Some say it is great for anxiety while others say it is for sleep

Depends on the dose and your tolerance but it is designed as a sleep aid.

it is absolutely not for anxiety and your dr should know better. its for sleep ONLY. you will develop a tolerance to it rapidly and will be a walking zombie if you misuse it for anxiety. its also just as addicting as any other benzo. try vistaril or buspar if you dont want a benzo for anxiety.

Do you see a GP, or a psychiatrist for your prescriptions?

A P-doc has the best knowledge of psychotropic meds.:) Considering a consultation with one may be a good step for your needs.

Hi

It's a strong acting Benzo which is why it is best used as a sleep aid as the others have said above you can build a tolerance to it very quickly so after a couple of weeks I found it did not help me sleep it just chilled me out.

Imo there are better options such as Xanax or Valium which can be taken on an as needed basis. All Benzo's do come with the potential of addiction/abuse I have been down that road myself so my doctor does not like prescribing me them. If you take them as prescribed you should have no problems and they are very effective.
