Improvement :D now need suggestion on insomnia

Hi there

That 4-7-8 breathing exercise i studied on this forum has so far worked wonder for me as my dizziness has reduced to a great level. Bundle of thanx for that. Now i need a suggestion i tend to fall sleep within an hour but after 2-3 hours my eyes open and that is due to i have to go to bathroom and i sleep again for 1 hour or so again and after that how much i try i could not sleep. though its not disturbing me in daily routine. The issue is when i have to attend conferences or any other event my schedule is disturbed and i cant fall asleep. Can anyone who is going through this suggest me a medicine for a sound sleep on occasional basis.

My sleeping pattern

Goes to bed at 10 P.M. Sleep round about 10:40 wake up at 1 0r 12:50. Fall back sleep within 20 mins for 1 hour and after that all i get is R.E.M weird dreams

Are you on any prescription medicines? If so, you might not be able to take herbal remedies because of the interaction, but I'll list some anyway.

One idea would be to take valerian root capsules. They smell horrible but they make you extremely sleepy (and help with anxiety). A less strong option would be ashwagandha which is another herb you can take in capsule form. It relaxes me but much more mildly than valerian. You shouldn't take either of these if you are on an SSRI.

You could also take some melatonin at bedtime. You can take this regardless of Rx because your body makes it naturally. I find if I take melatonin for several nights in a row, I am able to fall asleep right away. I started out taking 6m a night but now I am just taking 3mg. (Note: Don't take it during the day because it could mess up your body's internal clock.)

I wouldn't recommend most Rx meds for sleeplessness because you can get hooked on them, but you could try Hydroxyzine (which is an antihistamine) which makes you drowsy and helps with anxiety.

i will add benadryl to the list. there is a fairly strong new otc sleepaid called alteri on the market. it works wonders for me. but you cant take it of on ssri or some other drugs

Hi

Sorry to hear you are having trouble sleeping I know how frustrating that can be.

I use Valerian Root and find that helpful so give that a go.

Are you on medication? Some antidepressants, tricyclics, help with sleep even in low doses. I also find relaxation exercises help.

Some people find magnesium supplements help but they never worked for me except helping me go to the toilet
