First thing would be to make sure there is not an issue with your ears such as congestion, trapped water or an infection causing this issue. If you have had a recent virus, especially, you'll want to rule out an inner or middle ear infection.
If there is not a physical issue like the above mentioned to blame...you could just be dealing with some tinnitus.
This is a common/benign condition, that can come and go. (I have transient bouts of it.)
If it is really disruptive to your concentration while awake...or keeping you from sleeping...
...try some background music or white noise to make the ringing less noticable.
