Hi all - I've been on lexapro (generic) for over a month and have not had any improvement as far as my mood goes. Sometimes, it may even be worse. I'm still crying randomly and my panic attacks still come nearly every morning. I see my doctor again this week... I just don't know if I should just stop the med or do an increase? Feeling really lost right now and just don't know what to do. Any thoughts or words of wisdom for me? Thank you!

I would try an increase before you decide to throw in the towel. Usually the "starter" dose isn't enough for most people. I'm not on Lexapro but I needed an increase with Zoloft before I felt any improvements at all, so there is definitely a chance that an increase will help you.

I agree. I am on Lexapro, and it took a full 3 months for me to fully feel myself settling into the drug. I started with 10mg, and then increased 2 months later to 20mg.

about 2 weeks into that increase I thought it was too strong, because I had increased anxiety, but after another couple of weeks, it subsided.

Talk with your doctor, but if you are only on the starter dose of 10 mg, I'd do an increase before giving up on it.

Sorry to hear that you are not yet getting the relief you had hoped for. This is frustrating I am sure.

I hope that you and your doctor can come up with a good plan that starts to benefit you.

Medications work differently for everyone, for some the effects are instantaneous while with others it would take a long time before the body accepts it. I'm not very fond of medications but I do think they sometimes are necessary. Don't give up on it easily and ask permission from your doctor if you wish to increase the dosage. If it still doesn't work you can support it with other alternative approaches to increase it's effect.

Nutritional supplements can be very helpful. Endoca hemp products in particular have anxiolytic and anti-depressant properties that is proven to be effective in dealing with anxiety and depression. 5-HTP also have promising effects. You can also include herbal teas to calm yourself.

You should also consider therapy, meditation, and exercise. Having a healthier lifestyle increases the effects of the medications and limits the potential side-effects.

Hi

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the moment.

You are still in the start up period which can take upto 6-8 weeks so I would stick with it for a few more weeks before considering an increase and if you do go for an increase I would goto 15mg as Lexapro is the strongest of the ssri's.

Remember we are not doctors so always talk things through with your prescribing doctor.

If i were you i would give the med's a chance at least three months, stay in
touch with your doctor.
I used xanax and had no other meds, i used them as prescribed for about
six months then i started to cut back, i was able to work and hold a job by
taking a half in the morning and toughing out the rest of the day, i knew that
i could shut it down when i got home in the afternoon, if i was still tripping i would take a half, then one other half at bed time, i was able to quit by switching to benadryl at bed time. That was a long time ago. Peace
