Lower body temp

What causes a child's temperature to go from an average of 98.6 to 97.5-97.8? He is 6 years old. He had been fighting a little bit of something a few days ago as he had been around my family who all had head colds and is currently on an antibiotic because his eyes were bloodshot and crusted shut & he was complaining about his ear & head hurting. By the time he went to see the doctor though, she didn't see anything in his ears and his eyes had cleared up pretty much. But she put him on a 5 day antibiotic just to be safe. Sorry I'm rambling here but my worry is just because usually when you're sick, you get a higher temp, not lower, correct?

Larry is right. I run below 'normal' (sometimes I am 97.5)

Also, the body can drop its temperature before a fever comes on...so don't be surprised if he ends up running a little hot later on.

However, his abx could prevent that...so just keep an eye on him...but I am sure he'll be fine.:)
