Curious if there is anyone else with GAD on here that doesn't take a medication for it? I'm not anti medication or anything, I just fear it and the possible side effects 😔 I was prescribed Zoloft 50mg recently but have been afraid to take it, And unfortunately have been suffering with pretty constant anxiety still. (Surprise!) I just switched jobs and currently don't have health insurance for a couple weeks so it plays into my fear of having a bad reaction to the medication and not being able to get help without major debt to my family as well. I'm pretty good at positive self talk etc but being in a constant dazed fog/derealization and what not proves Its not enough. Any suggestions would be wonderful. Thank you!

Hello welcome,

Taking a med for anxiety is so good. It does help and yes the side effects will be uncomfortable for a bit but if you have been given an Rx for the med then I would say take it and if you do not feel that you can take the side effects then you can stop and get insurance before you try again. Please check the resources thread for coping skills to use to help as well as the meds you hae an Rx for.

Hi

I have GAD but do take medication but I know that is a personal choice.

Medication will only help ease your symptoms so it's best to do some talking therapy such as CBT or Mindfulness.

I know lots of people who don't take medication and manage their anxiety well by using self help.

currently no med. quit prozac and zoloft 2 years ago. some days i dont like myself but i dont want to go back to those kind of drugs. taking things one day at a time

I have GAD and I take paxil. I would love to find some alternative way to feel better but it hasn't happened for me yet. I too was/am scared of nasty sode effects from meds. It took me 4 months to actually start taking my medication. Now I can say when I first started taking the paxil (about 10 years ago) it helped tremendously, it gave me my life back. I am having some trouble now and trying to get back to feeling well with an increase in my dose. I hope you start to fell well whether you decode to take the meds or not. Wishing you the best

I don't take meds...but if there comes a time where my management strategies prove to not be sufficient...

...I will not hesitate to seek help with an Rx.

For now, my CBT experiences, self help...and the support if this community are serving me well.

I don't take antidepressants anymore but I do take a half of a low dose Xanax when needed and it's great as long as you don't abuse it.

I don't take any meds. I did, some years ago, but stopped. On occasion, i will take a sleeping pill, and on VERY rare occasion, i will take a small amount of xanax. But for now, that is all. BUT i am certainly open to take meds in the future, if needed.

I do not take any meds. I tried Lexapro and Zoloft but the weight gain was awful. I have not been taking meds for a year. I take Clonazepam when it gets really bad and it helps.

My dr wants me to try Buspar but I am not sure about wanting to take it...

I think that I concentrate too much in every little pain and get more anxious... so I will check the self help to see what I can use from there...

I have GAD and I take Hemp Paste. Typical prescriptions didn't work and I hated the side effects. The paste is all natural, 100% legal, and doesn't have any side effects. I've been on it for 4 months and it's really helped.
