In short, yes. ..SSRI's work the dual purpose of managing both anxiety and depression.

Your benzodiazepine, Klonopin, is however an anti anxiety Rx...that works on different brain receptors...and effectively shuts down acute anxiety and panic.

SSRI'S are taken daily, and the benefit is a steady level of medication to help manage anxiety on a day to day basis.

A benzo on the other hand are more likely to be prescribed as needed...due to their tendency to carry dependency and /or tolerance issues.

Both classes of meds are useful in their own right. It therefore depends on the individual and situation which (or both) may be indicated.

If you have concerns whether you are on the right Rx regimen...talking with your doctor would be a good step.

Do you see a GP, or a psychiatrist for your prescriptions?

I have been on many antidepressants over the years and some work better than others but it's hard to recommend meds because what works well for one person may not work as well for an other.

Saying that I would say that for me Lexapro was the best medication I have taken as it worked really well on my anxiety and depression with minimal side effects.
