Switching to Zoloft from Lexapro

I am switching from Lexapro to Zoloft. Lexapro didn't really help with my anxiety unless I went to 20 mg and on 20 mg I felt like a zombie. My dr told me I just just stop taking lexapro and go right to zoloft. She is starting me on 25mg of Zoloft. Within the over 8 weeks I was on Lexapro, I had increased and then decreased my dose, so was at 10 mg and then 5mg for the last 3 days. Anyone that did this, did you experience withdrawals switching and what time of day did you take it. Was going to try to go without drugs, but my anxiety is too high. How were the side effects?

Does switching between SSRI's lessen side effects because you have somehow got used to them?

Tlkat,

You may very well have no side effects switching between the two Rx's as they are in the same family...

...still, it is still a start up of a different med...

...so while you shouldn't anticipate any issues, you should use your coping skills to help you feel your best.

Hoping this transition is smooth...and the new med is beneficial!

I am currently about to do the same thing as you and as this post is over 2 years old, I was hoping to know how it went for you?

I have been on Zoloft now for just about 2 months now. I started at 12.5, then bumped up to 25 for 3 weeks and have gone back to 12.5 for the past 10 days. It seemed that 25 actually made me more anxious thus the reason for dropping back. Not sure how much the Z is helping versus the CBT I am getting now. I try to gauge how I am doing by the need for klonopin I have prescribed to me during the day. I only take the K if I feel I really need it (either .25 or .5) in order to practice my coping skills. In the past 10 days I have only taken K twice during the day which is good. But, I still get GAD over stupid things but am trying to manage better on just a small amount of medication. But I also know that it is senseless to suffer too much and that is where the right medication/dosage is best for quality of life.
