Hi
I'm new to the forum a little history on me. I'm 65 male have had anxiety disorder since I was in my middle twenties. I have been on Nardil , approx 10 years, then to xpexor, 5 years, the last 4 years pristiq
Which works for me. 100 mg dose . I was wondering does this medication ever stop being effective?

Hi P and welcome!

It is hard to answer your question with any certainty....since medications perform differently on any given individual.

While true that many psychotropic meds lose efficacy ("poop-out") after a time...

...there's really no way to predict if and when it could happen.

The best approach therefore is to stay positive, not anticipating this possibility...

...and to also work on alternative methods of anxiety management such as therapy and/or self help techniques. (see our Resources at the top of the main forum page for the latter.)

Welcome to the forum.

SC is right this is a tough question to answer as we all react differently to meds.

From my personal experience antidepressants do seem to poop out over time and a change in medication or increase in dose is require.

You are right on the individualality prospective of medication ,how it affects us all a little different . I can say that pristiq has made me feel normal but recently I feel that I have a nervous stomach.
So I began to think about my medication I'm currently on
Like I said it has been working great for about 4 years, but I will inform my physician about this, and let you guys know how I make out
