Post Endoscopy Concerns

I had an endoscopy done yesterday. First I ever had. Went pretty well. Nothing they could see. It appears to be Gastritis, not surprised due to my anxiety. Still need biopsy results but at least nothing they can see physically there. That is good.

I was hungry after the procedure, which was yesterday morning, but since have not had an appetite, or stomach growls. I called the GI doc and they said that everyone can be different after the procedure in how they feel. Has anyone experienced similar? I thought I would be relieved, but not i am anxious as to why I am not hungry all day, even 12+ hours after. My throat is a bit scratchy but not bad, something they said also could take a couple days to fully go away.

My anxiety is kicking in making things worse to the point I feel like something is going wrong. I did manage to get down a yogurt, bagel, and nutrition shake, so that is good. I also have a prescription ready, so hopefully that starts working.

So any feedback? Anyone experience something similar and did it eventually come back a bit?

First off, I would like to say that I am sorry you are having stomach issues. I know how it feels; I have dealt with G.I. problems and anxiety since I was 13 (I'm now 25).

I have actually had several endoscopies, once of which included a ph monitor being placed in my esophagus (that was not fun!). I can tell you that with each of mine I did wake up very hungry. However, with the ph monitoring endoscopy, I was much more anxious and in pain when I woke up, so I didn't want to eat after that particular test for a couple of days.

I agree with S.C. though, since you are not in any physical discomfort, I would bet that the loss of appetite is due to your anxiety levels (my appetite is the first thing to go when my anxiety flares up). Since you are able to keep some food down, I would suggest trying to eat lightly and more often until your appetite returns. I hope you feel better soon, and I hope your tests all turn out okay!
