Thread for Those Dealing With the Loss of a Loved One.

Speaking of the HW family...

We lose a few people every year in the Prostate Cancer forum.

To make matters worse, we have two gatherings every year for the past several years. In the Spring, we meet in either Baton Rouge or Florida and in the Fall we meet in Jersey. We've been averaging about 30 people + spouses for the three day event.

It really sucks to meet a "brother" at one of these gatherings only to lose him down the road.

Just this week, someone started a conversation about "Do you feel guilty for being ALIVE?" It didn't go over so well. Surviving cancer isn't the same as being the only soldier in a troop to survive a battle...or the only person to survive in a nasty car crash... But there is a sense of "there but for the grace of God go I" when someone with a more severe case passes on.

And YES, having friends - even if they are only online friends, to talk to is GREAT.

Great idea for a thread SC...especially since today is my late grandpa's birthday.

For a long time I couldn't talk about the death of my grandparents without becoming overly emotional to the point where I had to walk away. I've grieved for over a year now and while the pain is still there, I've accepted their death, which is a big step for me.

Hi, I just lost my 55 yr old aunt from rectal cancer. 10 yrs older than me. I have ulcerative colitis and for her to lose her life so young to this kind of cancer hits close to my heat because of my disease. I lost one of my best friends she wasn't just my aunt.
The sadness and anger it's me off guard. I'm on anxiety meds but they can't control all my emotions.
I lost my uncle/ her brother 2 yrs ago.and my Grammy a year be for that. A lot of loss in a short time. I see my therapist thank goodness for her. Nights are hard because my aunt used to call . She was a night owl. How do you get thru such a close loss of someone :(
She will always be with me but she wasn't suppose to leave me :(

I get the hurt very well. I just lost my grandma in April and my pain is still very raw. My grandma was more than a grandma,she was pretty much my mother too...my mother was killed by a drunk driver when I was just 4years old and she was my grandma's youngest of 3 and I was my mom's baby so you can imagine the bond I had with my grandma.
I try to find something every day to be thankful for because I know my grandma wouldn't want me to be so sad and lost. It's hard...very hard!
I have a couple voice messages saved on my phone from her that I listen to and it makes me smile to hear her voice.
I have had alot of loss in my life but this one got me the worst! I just miss her.

Hey all.
I don't mean to bump an old thread but I have been trying to sort out what I wanted to sa in here before I posted.
I feel like the things I'm about to share have had a massive impact on my anxiety/ recovery from it.
Long ago I have GAD which was totally dormant for about 10 years with the help of meds, but about 3 years ago now my anxiety started to creep back slowly, I think from stress and just unhappiness but that's besides the point. 2 years back I moved from canada ( my home ) to California to be with my husband. And all was going ok was still having the odd anxiety spell but was pretty stable. A year ago now my father took I'll with alcohol related serosis (sp?) And it was a long drawn out sickness that I ended up having to be the decision maker to take him off life support. That was very hard but harder still because I was here and he ws there, as you can imagine newly weds and I could not work because no green card it was immposible for me to get to him. And then the second Shoe dropped one month later to the day my mother had heart failure in her sleep and passed away, a total shock. This time we put plane tickets on a credit and off I went to the airport, well I was boarding and couldn't do it, felt that old familiar I'm going to pass out/die full blown anxiety attack. Luckily my brothers skype me into the funeral but it's been a bit more than a year and I'll never forgive myself for not beeing there.
I think that's when my anxiety became mainly focuses on my health
It's gotten better and now worse again as an old feind who was my age (29) passed away last month from a brain tumor.

I try very hard to look at all the positives in life still and feel that I am starting to be able to feel happy again. I miss them everyday of course. I know they would want me to have life, I hope I can get over this hurdle and make them proud

When I was 21 my husband was KIA approximately a month before our daughter was born. Mother's Day actually. I initially was shocked followed by a need to protect my little one from feeling the pain of not having him around. Needless to say it's been four years and I just now started to grieve and really accept everything that had happened. I went from being a calm and happy person to a depressed nervous wreck because of it. My best advice is to take time out for yourself and really feel the grief. Because when you let it sit in the back of your mind it'll eventually come out and it's terrible.
