Hi Hollis and welcome!
You have been through a lot! Surgery, and all of the physical, as well as the emotional challenges it poses is no small matter.
It is good that you recognized the need for help in order to get back to feeling your best...and jumped into action...well done!
You will undoubtedly reach your goals with continued effort in therapy, and time to get through your start up, so keep up hope!
Typically, SSRI break in time is anywhere from 2 up to 10 weeks...with about 6 weeks being the average time therapeutic benefits are seen. This progress is not always linear however...and increases in dosage times can be a bit challenging...
So while its impossible to say what your unique/individual experience will be...taking the steps below will ensure the smoothest start up possible:
*Stay optimistic. Thinking positive goes a long way in setting the tone! Don't anticipate any hardship...but if things do get rough...realize that it is a temporary means to the end...which is gaining anxiety management and feeling good again.:)
*Use coping skills. Self help exercises are powerful tools if practiced regularly. Please see our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great material. Starting with the 'Stress Relieving Exercises' and the meditation videos is a good plan.
*Keep posting with us! We understand, care and support is key.:)
Best wishes, and talk soon,
Scaredy Cat
