cilly:
(this post is actually part of my post to cilly from the "bi-polar" section of this website, under the title "Nightmare on Elm Street."
(I copied it here for it deals with this "someone tried to break in" topic. --Tim Tam)
(The issue here, is, someone has the key to her apt., for he opened the door one day, saw her, and left. So, he can break in when she's not home, and be in the apt. when she gets home.)
I wrote in "bi-polar" section:
A dog helps. Even from my living room, he may bark if someone gets too close to the house, or knocks. Burglars don't like dogs.
I had one who barked when a guy was fixing to break into my house and I was alone, with no car outside, and when he heard my dog bark, he got back in his car. I know that dog saved my life.
If you have a dog in your apartment, which you said you did, the dog may bark if you're not there and he starts to open the door.
He probably won't walk in if your dog is barking (or growling) at him, like this burglar, above, got back in his car when he heard my dog start to bark from inside.
If you come home, and your dog's not there, calling him from the front door, you don't want to go inside, unless you have a policeman with you to make a security check.
I think your dog could be one of the key issues here.
So its good that you have a dog. Treat him good.
I, also, would not open the door if someone knocks. I would talk through the door, if you choose, to find out who it is. Or, not talk, and if they don't go away, you can call the police, and have the steel polls under the doorknob.
Another thing which can help is if you have a positive attitude that you can get through some of this.
"One problem at a time, and be positive about that problem."
