As feared, I'm getting worse the closer I'm getting to this trip. My wife is working tonight so I'm by myself in the house and I've been doing nothing but crying since I got home.

SB,
I am sorry you are having a rough time tonight.:(
Have you used our Therapy Worksheets found in the Resources?
First identify as many anxious thoughts and feelings you have about
the trip. Write them down.
Then download the worksheets that look the most helpful to you. (thought challenging exercise is a great one.)
...then start to go through the steps to disarm the fearful thought/feeling.
This will help you to not only be less anxious about
the upcoming trip...but also give you a general feeling of empowerment over these worries.
YOU are in control....get pro-active and fight this.:)

SoonBlue,
I, too, have trip anxiety. What is the part that scares you most about
traveling? Is it the actual flying or is it just leaving your routine?
It helps me to usually take something from home on a trip. I typically bring my pillow or a blanket from my bed. Sounds juvenile but the familiarity of it helps and creates an element of safety.
Have you tried essential oils? Some health food stores like Whole Foods or the like have roll on Essentials like Lavender and Peppermint that destress a situation and cure nausea, too.
Hope you feel better soon!

Leaving my routine is the big one. It's like a cross between anxiety and homesickness. After I took my dog out for a walk tonight and gave him his dinner he came up to me and I just lost it. Then I started looking around the house at things: my living room where my wife and I cuddle and watch TV, my bedroom etc. and I just started feeling so sad.

This is just my opinion, but maybe just stay home this time, why go thru all this panic, anxiety and stress? Go again when your stronger. Maybe staying home will give you some needed therapy to relax and be stress free. Talk to your wife and explain this, if she understands your anxiety she will understand your need for solitude right now.
I know some say, " just use your coping skills, and take meds to calm you down". I say, " Listen to your body and relax, take this time for you, stay home, it's okay".
I totally understand your dilemma, and to be honest, I wouldn't make it either. I really believe that you will be able to when you are stronger, and the stress is eased. Hugs.
