Effexor / venlafaxine (new prescription)

Hello! Reaching out here as someone who has never taken any anti-anxiety medications and am now on day 2 of taking the generic brand of Effexor (venlafaxine). I've found that I haven't really had too bad of side effects (fingers crossed) EXCEPT for disturbed sleep. On the first day I had some nausea and dry mouth, but that seemed to mostly subside (I still have a bit of dry mouth). However, in the evenings like yesterday and today, I seem to be more anxious / panicky, like my heart rate is increased and I feel hot? And even though I feel quite tired, last night I woke up in the middle of the night and just couldn't fall back asleep. I was waking up with like random weird thoughts and things that didn't make sense, and felt like I couldn't calm my brain down to stop racing through these weird thoughts.

Any advice or thoughts from people who have gone through anything similar? I'm currently on the starting dose of 37.5mg per day and really hoping these things will subside soon!

Hang in there bambie! Side effects usually fade in a few weeks like SC said. You will get through this!

babmie - well at only 2 days in, you're not at therapeutic levels yet. So all of this anxiety at night could very well have as much to do with existing anxiety coming out as anything to do with the medication. Or it could be side effects starting to kick in. It's a bit of a waiting game in the beginning, balancing side effects with relief. But the tides will turn in your favor soon, so hang in there. This is a good medication for a lot of people.
