I have been on pexeva for 6 years and weaned off. My dr. thought i didn't need it anymore. i have been off of it for about 10 days and suffering withdrawal reactions, such as, flu like symptom, chills, body aches, feeling dizzy. just curious how long these symptoms will last.

I am sorry that you are having difficulty with your discontinuation. :( This is of course difficult and disappointing when you were expecting to feel better...

Did your prescribing doctor give you a gradual weaning schedule? The symptoms you describe sound like you came off too rapidly.

Have you consulted with your doctor yet? You may want to discuss going back on the lowest level for a bit, before attempting the final step down again.

Also, some of what you are experiencing could simply be breakthrough anxiety...since you are now without one of your management tools. Are you working through self help or therapy to complete your management plan?

Please see our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great self help material. Practicing the suggested exercises daily will make a big difference in how you feel.

i thought i weaned off properly. started on 40 mg, then took 20 mg for awhile, then took every other day. my dr. didn't think i need to wean off, just stop and that i would be ok. but, i heard so much about weaning, i thought that would be the best bet. maybe i didn't wean off s well as i should have. my dr is on vacation until next week, i will have to fight thru it and see what he says next week. i guess i have to just fight these feelings and hopefully they will pass. :)

Oh wow...I am sorry you didn't get better guidance for this.:( Paxil makes the list if one of the more difficult SSRI'S to discontinue.

Do you see a GP, or a P-doc? If you don't have the latter...you may want to consider a consult with one if possible.

In our Resources we also have a site link for 'The Road Back'...and there you'll find some good advice for dealing with discontinuation effects. (they sell/push their own supplements there, which you can ignore, and just read up on weaning schedules.)

my primary care dr is on vacation until monday. i will call him then for sure. it's funny that u mentioned that book, "the road back", i saw that on my searches yesterday and downloaded it. haven't read it yet, but i def will.
