Lexapro and Wellbutrin?

I currently take Lexapro 10MG for depression and anxiety (and klonopin as needed). I tried 15MG but saw no change.

Sex drive is gone, weight gain is happening as most SSRI's do.

Doc wants to add small dose of wellbutrin as the lexapro isn't improving mood only anxiety and some ocd.

I read these two can cause seizures for people as they both interact with similar brain chemicals.

Thoughts?

Hi Yankee,

Wellbutrin is a well known 'add-on' Rx...used with an SSRI, and I have not heard of the risk of seizure when these meds are taken as prescribed in combination by your doctor.

Remind me, do you see a P-doc or a GP for your prescriptions? If you are seeing a psychiatrist, you can feel confident that he/she has specialized knowledge of these medications . If you are seeing a GP, but still feel unsure about this regimen...ask for a consult/referral for a P-doc if possible.

I hope you can get the answers/reassurance that you need...and the right plan to help you in reaching your goals...you will get there...keep encouraged!

They're definitely prescribed together often, but if you have any questions, ask your doc or a pharmacist - they'll be happy to help ease any fears you have!

It seems to be common practice for pdocs to mix medications these days and I know a few folk who have had great success with Lexapro and Wellbutrin but as mentioned above talk through any concerns you have with your prescribing doctor.
