Diazapam for 1 day

Hello

I have an MRI scheduled for Monday and the Dr. gave me Diazapam 5mg because im claustrophobic. I have never taken this. Ill this knock me out all day or keep me calm ???

Hi Bam,

Your Rx is a sedative (benzodiazepine) at a medium level dose. (Diazepam comes in 2, 5 and 10 mg dosage)

You should feel calm and relaxed for the duration of your procedure...which is desired of course!

You may have some residual sedative effects for a while afterward, so it will be best to have a ride home set up...

...but other than that, you should feel back to yourself with a few hours.:)

I was given 2mg if needed, however personally i didn't need that dose .
I broke one tablet up and had a little at a time to see how it affected me, and i didn't need any more than 1 mg ,
See how you feel on the day and discuss it with the team who do the MRI if your worried when you get there.
Good luck i hope all goes well and at least you have prepared yourself for the scan... Lets hope you dont feel as claustrophobic as your anticipating.
You can ask to keep your head out ... If that doesnt need to be in.... If you get my meaning

5mg will make you feel relaxed but will not knock you out.

I have had a couple of MRI's and don't like small places but it was not as bad as I thought it would be and the staff that get you ready for it are very good as most people are nervous about it.

I had some in the ER, wish I knew what dosage but I do not. It was the first time I had one and it really didn't do much to me.

The MRI is for my head so keeping it out is not an option. Just thinking of tomorrow freaks me out. I hope diazapram helps me as my previous MRI I freaked out and couldn't do it.

Ah sorry about my suggestion then.... Not much chance of keeping your head out my mistake.. ever the optimist 😉

Well 2 diazapram 10mg all together did nothing for me. Tried two times and I freaked. :(

Oh no! :(

I hope your doctor can come up with an alternative that works for you.

Some people just can't endure certain teats/procedures...so there are usually other options...
