Restarting Lexapro- side effects I'm having

I haven't posted on here in a long time. Long story short I've been on the same meds for five years and they never worked and now completely failed.

I started Lexapro three days ago (2.5 MGS) while tapering from 40 to 20 MGS of Celexa.

My question is whether it's normal to have a racing heart for an hour or two after I take the lexapro every morning?

I am starting on such a low dose because I have a major sensitivity to medications.

I switch to 5 MGS on Thursday so I'm praying the side effects simmer a bit but then this could also be because of how bad my anxiety has been.

Don't worry. All of the tapering and starting of new meds is being monitored by my psychiatrist.

I am sorry to hear of your Rx difficulties...and hope that this transition smooths out and you end up with a med that performs well for you!

Lexapro is known to be an activating med...one that many people have initial reactions too...such as restlessness/sleep issues...so you are not alone in this.

Using your relaxation coping skills should help until the s/e's phase out in time.

I don't have a sleep issue as I'm taking it early in the morning but it just makes my heart race !!! So frustrating.

Thanks for the welcome back. It's been a long time.

I just wonder if irritability is a typical side effect too?

Welcome back to the forum.

As SC mentioned Lexapro is a very activating medication so yes it could be causing your racing heart but it could also be down to anxiety as well. I would stick with it and you should see an improvement after a couple of weeks if not go back and speak with your pdoc.
