Extremely anxious and emotional

I think it is completely normal.

You are bound to have moments like this. Just as you will have moments of optimism, courage, hope and other positive emotions. It is expected to run the whole spectrum, depending on the day, your energy levels...chemical balance, ect...

Use your medication...if this isn't a time to, then I don't know what is. I think this challenge, while you have a dx...but no clear plan of action yet, is the toughest time.

You are doing amazingly well. I would not be half as brave. I am very proud of you...

...and I also know you are going to be alright...and that you are going to fight this and WIN!

We wait with you the next couple of days...so visualize our presence and support...

Super20dan, I agree, it is all scary to me. The anxiety is so bad sometimes. I also try to keep up a brave front. Don't want anyone seeing me cry, especially my grandchildren. Have you started any treatment yet? Seeing the surgeon and oncologist tomorrow to find out what treatments I will need. Scared of that too. I will continue with the anxiety meds to help me out now. We will both get through all this and be fine. Good luck to you. You will see me on here plenty I'm sure. Good to know I am not alone having this anxiety.

Saw the surgeon and oncologist today. After consultations with them both and all the info about my tumors, my husband and I agreed that a mastectomy was the way to go. At this point I am happy with that decision. I will see a plastic surgeon about my reconstruction next week. This is one of the first days I am not so down. Maybe because I have all the information now I can relax and know the cancer will be taken care of. Not to say that I won't cry or be emotional. It is scary, I will say that. Didn't sleep at all last night and could barely stomach food today, but after seeing the doctors I had a taste for pizza. LOL...and it was so good. Surgery will be in a couple weeks.

I am glad to hear that you feel like you can face this and come out better for it. Yes you will still be scared and emotional it is after all Cancer, but you having a plan and a course of action that always helps. I am so glad that you are feeling better. My ex-mother in law had breast Cancer and she did the same thing that you are. She has been in the clear for 20+ years now. She never had a single regret.

Don't be afraid to lean on your loved ones! I'm sure they want to do anything and everything they can for you right now!!

sorry I just have to put my 2 cents worth in. a few people have mentioned they didn't want to cry in front of husband or children or grandchildren. I don't see anything wrong with crying, and it's ok to let people in your family or support system see you cry. it's a very difficult situation and being upset and crying is normal. sorry just had to say this.

After some really good days I am once again very anxious and emotional. No date set yet for my mastectomy. Should be within the next few weeks. I am so scared and can think of nothing but this surgery and pain. The recovery and pain is my main concern right now. The plastic surgeon will start the process of breast construction following the mastectomy.
Why am I so emotional about all this? Every couple of days I need to take Clonazepam before bedtime. It helps me get some sleep. It seems I get down and emotional about the same time every night. That's how I'm feeling now. Don't want to talk, read, watch tv, or do anything. What can't I be positive and stop the continual thinking of this surgery? I am sick to my stomach now with that panicky feeling. No panic attacks, just this awful anxiety.
Sometimes I just need to come to this site to get it all out.

Thank you Scaredy Cat. These feelings come and go. Looking forward to Easter and family time. We have 3 new babiesin our family to fawn over. LOL

You are a stronger and braver than you know. You will get through this!

I am glad that you have a definitive date now...this will go a long way in helping you to feel there is a just a period of waiting to get through...then you are on your way to recovery, healing and getting back to your routine as you are accustomed to.

Asking your doctor for a pre-surgery rescue med prescription to keep you calm may be in order. They understand, and will want you to be as comfortable as possible.

Yes, I couldn't remember if you took a benzo or not...

If you are on a lower dose, you may want to ask about temporarily (for a day or so leading up to your procedure if needed) taking a higher one?

I am not sure about what you can take the day of...they may not want you to take anything, so be sure and check your pre-op instructions.
