Lexapro 5mg, side effects too much!

I am on my 5th day of 5 milligram Lexapro. I have had generalized anxiety disorder for the last 20 years and have been on and off medications that never really worked. I've gotten to the point where I need to feel better I want to feel better so that is why my doctor put me on Lexapro. Unfortunately I'm ready to throw in the towel due to the side-effects, my anxiety is absolutely through the roof where I do not even feel like I can leave the house. I was recently laid off my job so thankfully I don't really have to right now. I'm exhausted I'm foggy headed and have had several panic attacks in the last five days. I am taking a very small dosage of clonazepam as needed to get through this hard time. However it's not doing much. Is what I'm feeling really a side effect of 5 milligrams of Lexapro?? This is ridiculous I don't know I can go through another couple weeks like this.

I am sorry to hear of your struggles currently.

Lexapro can be an activating medication...initially causing an increase in anxiety...

...but if you can hang in there...you will likely end up with an Rx that will perform well for you.

Use your rescue med as needed during your start up period...as well as working self help coping skills. See our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great material!
