Usually I feel like if somebody is minimising my disease that's because they are minimising my disease. Sometimes I get hold of the wrong end of the stick, but I'm not seeing any evidence this time around that I did. To the contrary.
IBD is a serious disease, which killed people in the past before modern day treatment and surgery (there are historical papers which can be found on google). It's not only a serious disease, but we have to take some pretty horrible meds for it and sometimes have major surgery. The disease itself creates an elevated cancer risk, as does the most of the meds we take for it - sure, the overall effect is small, but not zero.
There are numerous other side-effects and extra-intestinal complications: the effects are not confined solely to the bowels.
