I got a script for Lexapro, but I'm afraid to try it. Go figure.

if you find the start up side effects too severe-cut your dose in half and take that for a while till you can eventually work up to the normal starting dose. lex is very effective but start up can be rocky for some. there is always cipralex which is a weaker version of lex . if lex is too much -you can ask dr for cirpalex. that's what I had to do . I understand your reluctance to start this type of med but if you are in really bad shape as I was -its the best thing.

All I will add is encouragement to take the leap of faith that may turn out to be an excellent management tool for you...and help you move into a great recovery.

You really never know until you give it a chance to help. Try to avoid reading negative experiences written by others...because for every one out there....there are countless other good reports that never get written! (it is human nature to talk about a something going wrong, rather than right!)

Use coping skills to get you through your start up...and of course we will be here to cheer you on!

We support you in any decision you ultimately make!

Lexapro is a good medication ,I am on it and you will be fine.

I just like you Betsy to try a new med ,very hesitant.

But I have been on it for about 2yrs now,I guess it works as I am here ~lol.

Sometimes all we need a validation ,that's all.

Hi!

I've been on lexapro for 4 years (on and off). The start up side effects are no fun to be honest--i was dizzy, nauseas and more anxious. However, I was able to get a prescription for ativan to help with the start up side effects, maybe that is something you can look into? Also, the side effects WILL taper down and get better after about 2 weeks smile it is definitely worth holding on for, Lexapro gave me my life back

The dizziness and confused head are not fun to deal with. I still make it to work every day, I figure it is best to be doing something to keep my mind off the symptoms. Also, I have no enthusiasm to do anything, so if I stay home I just sit and watch tv, which is not good.

Starting with a very low dose (eg, 5 mg), and then slowly ratcheting up to where you need to be, may reduce or even eliminate any initial side effects. Of course, all subject to whatever advice you get from your doctor.

my husband is a new man on it, so thankful for it. however, he has had to up his dosage as time went on to meet his needs.

I agree with the others about starting out slowly and raising to the correct dose. I also think, as did someone else, that it's a good idea to check with your Dr. Some meds can't be cut in half, although I don't think it's a problem with lexapro. I did pretty well on it while I took it and only went off of it to a different med because of a different problem. (not lexapro's fault.)

Hoping it ends up being an easy med for you and that it works well.
