Hello everyone,

I somehow stop taking Lexapro little by little and went days without taking it. I figured I didnt need it anymore. Then anxiety started hitting me really bad. Ive been on 5 mgs for about 8 yrs and its been about 8 weeks since i started taking them faithfully. I was in the transition of starting new job and my anxiety has been out of control. I find myself not being able to shake off the panic attacks. I finally saw my doctor and he suggested I take 10mgs now. Luckily my new job is understanding but now im afraid of not being able to cope at work and losing my job. Today is the 1st day i take 10 mgs and i can feel a difference. The doctor gave me Clonazepam .5 mg but afraid to take it. At this point Im willing to because i need to get my anxiety under control.Has anyone taking Clonazepam and also Lexapro? I take Lexapro in the morning and doctor said ro ake Clonazepam at night as needed. Im just afraid to take so many medications.

I've been on Lexapro before. As with any antidepressant they lose their effectiveness after a year or two. That is why my doctor switches me to different ones when I feel the current one is not helping.

As for the Clonazepam, it's side effects include drowsiness so you might want to try it on a weekend or when you're not working. Taking these 2 medications is not very much at all. Lots of people take an antidepressant and anxiety medication at the same time. I do plus others. I trust my doctor and we talk about them which is why I'm not concerned. Next time you see your doctor tell him you are concerned and talk to him/her. It will help your anxiety to have answers. Also keep posting your concerns here and we'll be here to help get you through the tough times.

Hi MJ and welcome back!

Although I am sorry it is due to returning anxiety. I know how disappointing this feels.

As Chutz mentioned, increases are typically needed to get the most out of your medication after a certain amount of time...and you had great longetivity at the .5, actually. It is also not unusual to need an increase in a previously therapeutic dose after a restart...so know that this is all normal.

You should start to feel better soon if you have been back on for 8 weeks now...but I wouldn't hesitate to take your rescue med if needed. I think if you do, you will wonder why you waited so long! Benzos are amazing at calming anxiety and stopping attacks, and have little side effects. The trade off is that they can be cause dependency, but I doubt this will be an issue for you...especially when taken only as needed and temporarily.

Remember to practice your coping skills daily as well for a well rounded anxiety management program...

I am tapering off klonopin that I take along with zoloft. My zoloft dosage is 25 mg which seems to be doing a good job. I was also taking 50 mg of klonopin daily for 3 months, splitting it into 2 25 mg doses. I thought it really helped me, and did not make me drowsy or hung over. Am down to .125 daily now which I will stay on for another 2 weeks, then go every other day if I think I am ready. Thumbs up is my vote.
