I had been looking forward to a week off work at the beach with my family but so many things went wrong and my anxiety really ramped up. I'd already had vacation prep anxiety but then the drive was longer than expected, news stories of shark sightings and flesh eating bacteria, then the house we rented had "palmetto bugs" - they are roaches. Big, winged roaches. And it wasn't just a few that flew into the house when the door was left
open, the bugs were living in the ceiling. My son and I have a serious phobia. We found them just before going to bed. I didn't sleep at all that night. Stayed up checking on the kids and killing the bugs I saw (only 2, but that was more than enough).
We couldn't stay there. We left the next day. We wound up staying at a family friend's house near another beach, which was nice and I did enjoy that, but the anxiety never really settled down. I have had the phantom smell of cigarettes that I get from time to time since leaving beach house #1, which is just awful.
I return to work tomorrow and I'm feeling anxious about
that too. Wish I had a vacation post-vacation to get on track!

Sorry to hear about
the disappointing vacation. I had one too, recently. I had a bad health development before the vacation, and I made a bad decision that exacerbated the problem, and I was stressed about
it throughout the vacation. This was a long-awaited vacation, and I was so disappointed. I tried to salvage what I could of it, but it was tough. I feel terrible that it had an impact on my wife too. So you and I are in the same position, albeit for different reasons. I hope both of us get another vacation soon, and one free of anxiety!

S.,
I too am sorry to hear that your vacation was not as relaxed as you would have wanted it to be! I hear ya on the bugs! We rented a beautiful Air B&B in Hawai'i...and had the same experience. The funny thing? When we visited the grounds of the $500 dollar a night (minimum!) Hilton Resort....my daughter saw a cockroach crawl up the sink drain in the bathroom lobby! Some areas are just prone to beasties, lol!
I hope that going back to work today serves as a distraction, rather than more stress for you. Practice your coping skills, and you will get through it. You are stronger than you know!
Let us know how you are doing soon!

Had a bad vacation experience as well lately.
Had booked the trip way in advance to my youngest son's passing to my most favorite beach in the world.
Well my grief and anxiety followed me and now I have no desire to ever return again.
My husband got bit up with sand flies in bed our second night there. The itch was uncontrollable and non responsive to any treatments. We got upgraded to a posh Villa but it did not bring peace.
I too need a vacation from vacation.
Not hijacking your post....just commiserating.
All my best

Sorry to hear the WRAS!
I hope you can find some peace in the coming days and decompress. I know how disappointed you must feel though...and I get that. :/
...and p.s., you are not hijacking at all....just showing support through understanding and relating.
