Psychotherapists try and often succeed at making a difference in the lives of those struggling with mental illness by giving them helpful advice.
But psychiatric technicians who work in mental hospitals and psychiatric wards help people in a different way.
Psych techs aren't trained therapists. Instead, it's their jobs to keep patients in mental hospitals and psych wards safe. For example, they make sure that suicidal patients don't harm themselves while in the hospital.
Psych techs certainly do help others. I think that's awesome.
However, if you're thinking of becoming a psychiatric technician, be aware that the pay is low. And it's one of the most stressful ways to make a living.
