Does being on SSRI's for a long time have negative long term side effects?

I have been on an SSRI for about 2 years. I didnt want to be on it forever but the few times I have tried to ween I get bad anxiety, panic and start taking it again... Now I worry its not good to take for long or that I will have to take it forever... thoughts? Has anyone here been on one for awhile and then stopped and been ok?

I have been taking an SSRI and smiler class drugs for 12yrs and have not had any problems and I know a lot of people here have been on them for much longer so I wouldn't worry to much.

Which SSRI are you taking? And what dose?

Me getting weened off psychiatric medications has never worked out well for me either.

I have been on antidepressants and anxiety medications for 30 years and haven't experienced any problems. Just to be able to feel good is awesome. I see a lot of people go off only to need to go back on them.

Just my opinion.

If I have to stay on the psychiatric medication that I'm currently on for the rest of my life, than I'm okay with that, as long as it keeps working well for me.

No. Some can be a bit rough to wean off, but no as well. I been on psych meds for over 20 yrs and most of them!! HT

I was on for 6 years and my ssri stopped working. I went med free 3 years and did ok till I got cancer. went back on and had hell finding one that worked. I plan to stay on this one for as long as it works
