Please help me!!! I’m having panic attacks I can’t sleep

I have the worst health anxiety to begin with it is a terrible of getting cancer...I wish I wish I wish I did not do genetic testing but I did (and no it can not be a false positive I got it done at Ambry, most renown genetic lab) it came back I have this rare mutation that puts me at increased risk for colon cancer among other cancers. I’ve been throwing up I can’t sleep and I feel doomed. Doomed. I have two young kids and I can’t help but cry. I can’t live with this anxiety anymore I can’t deal..and now this. I feel like it’s over sad

The best thing you can do sweetie is be healthy. Eat properly, exercise and eliminate stress. Stress causes a lot of ailments. Do things to stay healthy and put the cancer risk out of your mind.

I find when I can't stop thinking at night that if I meditate, it puts me to sleep. repeating your mantra over and over in tune with your breathing doesn't allow you to think of anything else. Mind over matter I guess.

Remember, be healthy. That is your best fight.

My DIL gets a colonoscopy annually. Being proactive is the best.

How are you feeling now? Are things any better? You are probably sleeping.

you want a real cancer anxiety story? well i came down with prostate cancer 3 years ago . my anxiety was off the charts. go get help is the best way out of this mess. great meds for this these days

A genetic test is not a definitive cancer sentence. Genetics play a role, but can be positively modified by lifestyle choices. I've had and understand health anxiety and know that it is hard work to overcome it. Take care and hang in there.

Hi LMD...I too have recently had to deal with sleeplessness due to anxiety. What helped me was reciting a quote I got from one of the links in the resources section namely, 'Stop! These thoughts are not good for me. They are not healthy or helpful thoughts and I have decided to move in a better direction and learn to think differently' and also 'I will be alright. The feelings I have are not rational. I'll just relax, calm down and everything will be alright.' I was able to regain my sleep. I've read that you have to stop the thoughts because they are causing the anxiety and related symptoms. Also I used melatonin to help me sleep until I was able to come off of it.

I agree with Karen when she says that one of her relatives gets a colonoscopy every year which can reassure you that you don't have it, or catch any problems early so that it will be easier to deal with.

To sit outside the hospital and worry doesn't quite get it. Karen said these tests can be done every year. I've never heard of it that often.

My doctor used to recommend every 4 or 5 years. My general practitioner was probably the one who recommend it when I reached a certain age, say 50.

He or she would have called a colonoscopy doctor to set up an appointment. Can you ask your general practitioner about that?

But if you're worried night and day about something you don't even have, I think you're picking up on any possible situation you can find to dwell on the bad side. How about the good side? You don't have it. What happened to that?

CBT stresses positive thinking, in that you look at the good (I don't have that disease; I can get a colonoscopy). The good that can come of this is, you can see what you are doing.

Hey, hey!!

So I have not had the genetic testing for cancers, BUT, I did have a colonoscopy for random GI issues and turns out that while totally unrelated, I had the type of colon polyps that would likely become cancerous down the road. Here is the excellent news!! I now get a colonoscopy every 3 years and my GP and GI docs said that this is so proactive that now if any little polyp forms, it gets removed and I will likely NEVER end up with colon cancer! Schedule your first colonoscopy and you are good from there!

good advice - everyone get your colonosopy. and men please get psa tests. it saved my life!
