Anyone been weaned from zoloft to paxil?

Today was my first day taking Paxil. I am to take 100mg of zoloft in pm and 12.5 mg of Paxil in the am (this is down from 200mg of zoloft) in pm. So anyway, this am was my first time taking the paxil. I was sooooooooo sleepy for a while that I called the clinic and the NP said I could switch-take paxil in pm and zoloft in am. The xanax I took a little over 2 hours ago took about 1 1/2 to 2 hours it seemed to kick in some. My stomach is still in some knots. In a month, I'm supposed to go down to 50 mg of zoloft and 25mg of paxil. Has anyone else here dealt with this? Thanks,

Hi Janet,

As you know I went from zoloft 200 to 100 over 2 days and I've just finshed 2 days on nothing. Well I've made it.... I can start my new drug in less then 24 hrs now. I'm stressing a bit about that though.

I've got the kids flu bug but have basically found for me extreme tiredness, muscle spasms and muzzle head/ brain tingles have been it. Oh and hot flushes and I actually had one of those extremely weird vivid dreams today (I imagine it was like what someone on acid would see).

Take heart, I never thought I'd survive doing this alone but I have, the tiredness is a common side effect of withdrawing quickly off the zoloft. Remember you've got people on here to support you and try looking into the future, this will pass and you'll soon start to feel better. I want to sell the house and move so have been using that as a good focal point for positive future thoughts.

both meds are prozac type so there shouldnt be any serious problems

the smallest effective dose of paxil is usually 20

any med that sedates you should be taken jyust before bed

I have to take the paxil at night. It makes me too sleepy in the day. My only reservation about it is that if you ever have to come off of it, they say it is one of the most difficult to wean off from. But I'm concentrating on NOW. I will let y'all know how I do...I am feeling fair right now, but am sleepy a bit. I expect some of the side side effects to fade away soon.
Aussie, I'm so glad you're on the road to feeling better! smile
Harry, I expect you're right on the dosage amount, but I guess they want to get me off some of the zoloft first before going higher.

You are lucky to have this done in a transitional way. When I got changed from zoloft to lexapro, I was just switched, and had a total relapse of depression. This sounds like a much safer way to do the switch.

I had my first proper full day out yesterday. By the end of it panic was knocking at my door, but the avanza seemed to keep it to a livable level without letting it take full control.

I'm still getting the odd withdrawal symptom popping up as well but most days are pretty good.

Now I've got to make it through 2 weeks of school holidays. I can't wait till we move and the kids will be closer to their friends and the oldest 2 can leave the house and go play. (they're 14 and 12)

I take the Paxil in the am no sleepiness for me.....my husband takes Lexapro and Wellbutrin in the morning...I think most of them are prescribed for morning dosage.
