I am taking a stress management class at school. I decided that I want to try and be able to get off some of the meds I'm on and see the professor had some things I can do at home for relaxation and to calm the migraines, panic attacks and depression I have. Even if it's just a small amout, it will help. So....here's one that I want to share because I love it. It works if you can focus and just let it do it's thing.
Find some music that makes you feel good. I use thunder/rain storm track, whale song or just some spa relaxing music, like when you get a massage, new age kinda stuff. I also get my lavendar candles out. Lay on your back, feet resting on a chair so that the backs of your knees touch the edge of the chair. Put your arms on your stomach and concentrate on breathing. You want your stomach to move when you breathe, not your chest. This way you are getting more air into your lungs, better oxygen flow, better brain function. Clear your head of all thoughts, let your body relax. Put your arms to the side of you, of wherever is comfortable. Lay there like this for about 20 minutes, just listening to the music and smelling the scent of whatever you chose to use. Try and imagine all the stress and knots are leaving your body through your feet. When the 20 minutes are up, slowly pull your kness to your chest. Then turn side to side, if you can. Lay there until you are ready to sit up. Sit there until you are ready to stand. When you get into the standing position, stretch again, touch your toes, lift your arms up over your head. Then you are done.
This is called a power nap. I had an extremely bad migraine. I thought I was going to have to go to the clinic for some demerol and phenergan. I won't go unless everything else has failed. I have many things I do, from aroma therapy, ice packs, drugs, etc. Well, as I was waiting for my hubby to come home so he could take me there, I had this power nap pop in my head, "try it". So I did. And darned if it didn't help. It didn't take the migraine and panic away completely, but it was to the point where I didn't have to go to the clinic. I could actually keep food down. This is awesome. It works for my pain, ie; migraines, arthritis, panic attacks and even depression. It's not a miracle cure, but it takes this down to a dull roar instead of an overwhelming thing.
If anyone tries it and has success, let me know. I really wanted to share this.
