I suffer terribly from health anxiety. My symptoms come and go, but for the last 8 days, I have had underarm pain, in my right armpit. It seems to hurt when my arm is squeezed against my side, or if i stretch my arm up. It feels to be muscular, but I googled my symptoms, and scared myself to death. I would have thought if it was muscular tat it would have gone away by now, but i have also been obsessively focused on it, and palpating the area to feel for lumps, etc. I dont find any masses or lumps. I know that health anxiety/hypochondria is a huge issue for me, but I am so scared/ paranoid that i have some sort of cancer. Has anyone else ever experienced this pain?

I know if you look in prior posts there is a thread on this. It is probably nothing but you can always call your doctor and get checked out if it makes you feel better.

Hi Cat

Welcome to HW we are so happy you have found us. I haven't ever exspearinced what you are going thru but I would go to the dr and have it checked out. You said you found your symptoms here on the internet and scared yourself. Never never try to dignose yourself unless your a dr there are so many things it could be.

You might also want to visit the chat rooms and ask around with some of the members there. You will find chat on the blue line above, Home/Calendar/Chat/Search/Members/Help.

I appreciate your quick reply...My problem about seeing the doctor, I am terrified. I know it seems non-sensical....I want to be reassured, yet I am so scared that the doctor would confirm my biggest fears. I just want to hope and pray that this is nothing, and that it will go away soon. I want to stop the worry, but thought of seeing a doctor is soooo... scary for me. I know that is hard to understand... I was hooping someone wouild tell me, theyve had this too, and it goes away in time...

I woke up this morning-and the armpit pain is gone! (or almost gone) THank goodness! I am so relieved.thank you for your support.-Athina

cat lover - we had a thread about this a while back - and I think we all agreed that we either get the underarm pain from just the regular body tension from anxiety or just putting our deoderant on too hard :) lol

thanks for the response, I dont think it was from deodorant though. Mine was defintely muscular feeling, it felt strained, but i do think muscle tension could be the culprit for sure. Did your hurt when you moved your arm? was it only one arm? and did it hurt more if you squeezed your arm against your side.? im just curious to see if its the same exact type of symptom.thanks so muchfor your response. I appreciate it!

It appears messages in this column date back.  I am relieved to know there are others out there.  Every time I get an ache or pain I fear the worse.  8 days ago I started getting pain in my right under arm and right breast.  5 days later I got my period.  It is now day 5 since I started my period and my pain has not lessen.  I have had some pain before and I keep attributing it to perimenopause systems.  I am mid 40's. I am going to Doctor at the end of the month for my annual check.  This appointment could not come soon enough. I have a very high threashold for pain, but this is getting to be more than can I bare.  I was wondering if others out there who had the same pain if it got worse or better?

Hi everyone
I woke up two weeks ago with terrible pains in my armpits (not under). I thought it was from deodrant so i stopped using it.The pain is still there.I went to the doctor two days ago and she said she never heard of it before.She gave me some tablets called Neurontin.Its still no better and i am panicking. I am going for blood tests next week.Does anybody have any idea what its from ad will it go.Thanks

Just as a possibility, it may be adhesive capsulitis ("Frozen Shoulder"). I had this very painful thing about 5 years ago and it took 6 months of physical therapy
to get it "un" frozen, but there was pain under the arm, if I moved it a certain way, I couldn't reach up. Oddly, I could move my arms forward and backwards
but not sideways more than a few inches. It's completely treatable and I learned not to lean on my elbow while reading on the computer! Also, it was during
a time I was agoraphoebic and had no activity in my life whatsoever, so there was no blood really flowing.

Anyways, just a thought. A good test to see if it is frozen shoulder is to stand with your side toward a wall and try to crawl your fingers of the hurting underarm
up that wall, forefinger, then middle finger, forefinger, then middle finger. If this is excrutiating, then it may very well be adhesive capsulitis.

I do suffer with my back a lot as the work i do is very physicall and i do tend to lean on my elbow while on the computer. will try what you said Thanks a million .Will let you know how blood tests go.

Hello I know you dont have pain anymore and im new to this but ive had that and i know what you mean about feeling like its cancer or some tumor and i actuallu have a lump so i went to the dr and they checked it and said its just breast tissue that has formed outside the breast area. Then i noticed it only hurt before or during menstruation which means its a hormonal thing. nothing to worry about just in case it happens again! good luck.

Im new to this site this is my first post. I have suffered from underarm pain. Its on my left side under my arm pit and its the spot the size of a quarter that is sore to the touch...very sore. Nobody has mentioned about bras with wires? I am big breasted and have always warn a bra with a wire. I have been wearing spots bras lately to see if that helps. I also have been using a heating pad but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Would like some feed back to the bra wires.

I have been having similar under arm pain in my left armpit for over a year.

I thought it was my heart, but I have done some tests and my heart seems fine.

But this very annoying on going 24/7 pain is really a total "pain" in the butt.

My doctors will not do anything for me.

I also have a skin tag in the same underarm, that could be an option. I wish my doctor

would give me some caring and more then 5 min...

Tired of the naggin pain... confused

I've had similar issues, and gone to the doctor for xrays, ultrasounds, blood work, all to come clear. Not that I'm saying that you shoudln't get checked out, but for me it is a muscular problem. I have thoracic outlet syndrome in my left shoulder that I see a DO for manipulative therapy. It helps somewhat, although I trigger it doing pretty much any physical activity these days. Its frustrating, like you I have sore spots that are bothersome for days, then somewhat dissapear. Its hard because it definitely exacerbates health anxiety, and then of course you start prodding around "looking" for lumps (which in my case just makes the spot hurt worse! Go figure!). You are definitely not alone! It really can't hurt to go get checked out, perhaps you just need some physical therapy for your shoulder to strenghten up the muscles and it could be solved really simply! Thinking good thoughts for you!

Thank you for the reply, just so im not confused its not my shoulder. It in my armpit area when I do pretty much anything. But I guess ultimately it may be my shoulder or back muscle or any muscle in that area for that matter.
I just wish my doctor would do something other then saying or its nothing...

Hi. Have you had any back problems along with the armpit problem. I know that some of the upper discs are connected to your armpitt and run around that area. This can sometimes become worse if you are a manual worker or spend many hours in front of a computer as your back is not straight and can pinch a nerve in the back that runs through that area. What my problem is, is that I am not forceful enough. When I get to the office I lose all my agressiveness and say oh ok thats ok don't worry about it kind of thing...
Do you think an MRI is appropriate?
