I was wondering if anyone has taken Atarax?  My doc prescribed this, and I was wondering if it really works, I don't understand how a antihistamine is used for anxiety.  Thanks

They are actually used for anxiety! Harry would be a good one to answer your question. Hopefully, he'll see your post. In the meantime, you should "google" the drug and read what it says!

I was prescribed Atarax some time ago but it reacted opposite to me. Alot of meds they give me work reverse on me. Made me nervous. It was given to me for anxiety also. Now my sister was taking it and it knocked her on her butt. So she couldn't take it.

Hi Jenny on some ppl this med will work to help them get tired n sleep and are used for anxiety it is used for antihistamine reasons as you know or itchiness from bites
Maybe your doc would give you something else to help out what all is going on with you if you dont mind me asking

Howlyncat, doc prescribed this to me because I tried buspar and it made every symptom that I had worse, plus the muscle twitches were awful.  My problems all started 8 years ago with anxiety attacks that left me with 3 months of awful nausea, so I went through about 6 different test for my stomach, and the doc said it was anxiety.  I could not believe that anxiety could cause me to be so sick.  I googled "nausea" and MS came up, I totally freaked, because my gram was diagnosed with MS at age 60.  At that time my only problem was the nausea, and the disbelief that I had on why I felt this was not my case.  It was then I started noticing ever little sensation in my body, now I have on a daily basis, bug crawling sensations on my face, legs, arms, and upper back.  It drives me crazy.  So, this is a long story, but to put it mildly, I NEED HELP!!!

OKay NOW this explains the Atarax more to me it is given for itchiness and for agter effects of bug bites ect,,,,,
So it would be given to you if you had told doc you felt that something was crwling on skin constantly .......it should help plus it can make you drowsy

Some of the others that posted had problems or have family that had problems but as we all know each of us is different
Give it a try andsee if it helps it wont kill you firsure al it may do is make you tired .......and stop the crawling sensations ........

Also many other illnesses are associated with Anxiety I really dont think that you have MS hun so try not to worry about that even though it is in your family
I know it is hard not to worry but try
