I have never used lexapro but this is what I have read up on it.

 

You may have an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior at the start of treatment with an antidepressant medication, especially if you are under 18 years old. Talk with your doctor about this risk. While you are taking Lexapro you will need to be monitored for worsening symptoms of depression and/or suicidal thoughts during the first weeks of treatment, or whenever your dose is changed. In addition to you watching for changes in your own symptoms, your family or other caregivers should be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits for at least the first 12 weeks of treatment.

I've been on Lexapro for about three months. I like it.

There are a few side effects when you start taking it.

Mine specifically was mainly just waking up in the morning with my heart just racing and feeling anxious at first. That lasted for about a week, but it subsided.

Anytime I increased my dose I felt the same side effects.

When my dose was too high I felt a bit angry and restless, and my legs hurt so bad I couldn't walk, but I had lowered my dose to 15 mgs and was fine after that.

What dose did the doc start you on?

Lexapro is great, but I have a feeling it doesn't work as well if you abuse alcohol. (as I did for about a week straight, and then stopped drinking, and felt extremely depressed, but then again, alcohol is a depressant)

Other than that, most of my feelings of anxiety are gone. I don't feel anxious at all throughout the day anymore, and hardly ever need to take my Ativan.

I only get panicky when I have to go too far from my house, but it's all about exposure therapy. The meds aren't enough to change the way your brain thinks, but it is definately a great med I think, and has reduced my symptoms to almost nonexistant.

It's the best SSRI I've come across thus far.
