Need MORE Paxil Info PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been taking paxil for 10 years (never the CR though).  It has always worked very well for me.  Started out at about 30 or so mg/day - am now down to 10 mg/day.  At the full dose, I did not have any anxiety or panic.  I did not use any benzos.  I consider my A/P mild compared to many here though (my min dose of paxil probable accounts for that!).

My doc had first tried me on zoloft and I went thru what you are describing (I called it a relapse).  She felt it was not working for me and switched me to paxil.

Have you tried any other SSRIs?  As much as I "endorse" paxil, it may not be the one for you.  I've also heard that the CR doesnt work for everyone (even regular paxil users).

I would see if a different med works better.  Sorry you are having to go thru this.

Janet sweetie Paxil has been around for yrs it is an old drug and yes it may work for many but not for all . It was tooted mainly for OCD and A/P at the beginning
There are better choices out there IMO and hopefully if the paxil doesnt work soon then he will switch you over to a more recent med and you just might need a benzo for a bit to help you out .If it continues like this I would take the other xanax you have at least once a day but thats me hun you have to do what is right for you and your body

Paxil for me was EVIL! It made me irritable, anxious, sweaty and I gained weight and felt no interest in sexual activities at all. I had to go off of it. So, like Lyn said it works for some, but not for all. Then they prescribed me Lexaprol. That drug is great! Why don't you ask your doctor about that one???

I just got my pc back online...I'm still feeling very bad. Today, I went to see a pdoc and he upped my Paxil dose to 50mg. I am also supposed to go see a therapist to teach me CBT...I don't know how good these therapists are at it. I plan to read the lessons that Shawn's been sending me too. Guys, I'm really afraid. I really am. I am so depressed with the anxiety eating away at my soul that I just want to curl up into a ball and die. I'm hoping for a miracle here. Harry really scared me with the info that the SSRIs may not help me anymore since I was on Zoloft for so long...heaven help me. I'm also depressing my mom with all my weeping and long solemn face. That hurts me to hurt her.

I've taken paxil cr at 50mg. for 3 nights now. I've been sweating like a horse. I'm 42 and my age is ripe for premenopausal symptoms...so is it side effects of paxil or my hormones or both??? The pharmacist siad it could be my body adjusting to the new dose. He said it may take up to 2-3 weeks to see some benefits from the paxil. Heaven help me.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time! I don't take Paxil, but my sis-in-law does, and has for 4 years. I know she has been on the CR also, I just don't remember the dose. She recently had a relapse with her depression, and her doc raised her dose just a little, and she is much better now. Please remember that it takes some time for these meds to start working properly (believe me, I remember how hard it is waiting). Although sweating is a side effect of SSRI's, it surely is also a main one for premenopause! I have that problem also, but the hormone patch seems to help me (of course, I had a hysterectomy, so mine is definitely menopausal!). I'm hoping the higher dose will help you with some time, and please know that I will be thinking about you! (((Big Hugs))),

Janet- so sorry to hear you are having a rough time!! I remember when I first went on Zoloft, it was so tough waiting it out to see if it would work!! Everyone kept telling me things would get better, and all I could say was "when?". But, things WILL work out for you- whether it is through the Paxil or another med.

I know what you mean about the nights being the only peaceful time- I'm right there with you now on that one!! And I'm 47- so I'm right there with you on the menopausal thing. But, again, we know that we can't feel this way forever- and the docs will find the way to help you.
