Hello, I am usually on the ibs forum.. I have had IBS or so they think for 10 years.. I have had a full hysterectomy, gallbladder,appendix and adhesions removed from my colon.. I am still sick and in pain.. So now they tell me it is psychological.. Well if they could not leave there house and were in pain for 10 years maybe they would be psyco to.. So my question is.. I am not a drug taker.. Everything makes me sick.. They want me to take xanax 1mg extended release.. Anyone on that?? Please tell me how you feel.. Does it help with the anxiety?? I am now agorophobic and can't leave my house.. They think this drug will help me... Thank you for your time..

hi ryleigh, I can relate a bunch, and yes i do take something similar, i take klonopin 1 mg a day, and yes, it helps bunches. I dont feel anything from the medicine except somewhat of feeling normal,does that make sense? lol I have recently had surgery on diverticulitis, and had some intestines and bowel removed, and am having quite a bit of trouble with pain too, although it hasnt been for 10 years, i do agree, if they were in such pain for so long, they would be psycho also. I have had a hard time leaving my house, and to make matters worse, just started a new job. BUT.... my klonopin does help, and i dont like meds or docs either, but.....it helps me function more normally. I hope you feel better real soon, and keep us posted. hugs

I take Xanax, but in a .5mg form. I am hyper-tolerant to medication, so my experience may be considerably different to someone who isn't as tolerant, or Hypo-tolerant.

It will probably make you feel sleepy. If I am in the middle of a panic attack it sometimes works its magic, other times it only helps a little, and other times it does absolutely nothing. It works well for mild-severe anxiety in most cases. It is not a permanent drug though. It is also habit forming. I also take Zoloft, so they kind of interact together. You should see a counselor and you can find out if you have a chemical imbalance, some problems that need to be worked out, or both.

xanax XR is of course one of many valium type meds and is long lasting, but very expensive if you have to pay for it

clonazepam is similar lasts about as long and is much cheaper

a small dose of antidepressants often also helps with cronic pain
