YOU sound great I am so glad for you and the progress
I wish I had your Therapist makes a lot of interesting and factual points am gonna try that myself the Leap of Faith......... I did have a journal.....then I found HW lol and now most of my thoughts are here but I am doing way better with the CBT and I think this 'Impartial Observer" is a key point
I too must stay busy if not I am obsessing totally and its not all good obsessions I get down on self and thinking about Mom and If Dad is gonna be around
Obsess over looking after him I cannot save the world I have finally figured out lol only took me 53 yrs
Read back from your first post it is exciting to see the difference

I think keeping a Journal is a great tool. It's just gotten be another obsession for me.
And, you know what? I gave it up completely today. No biggee. And, I am much less obsessive. I think the Journal was giving too much importance from the "toxic waste" called OCD. Silly thoughts were given too much importance. You can't fight the thoughts. You have got to learn to observe them with dispassion. You must accept uncertainty into your life. For me that means accepting the very simple fact that thoughts=anxiety.

I know that sounds so simple. But, I will ask "what if it's not true?" Or am I the only one? Obviously that's silly. But, our brains are wired wrong. The Orbital Cortex. Sends out false alarms that seem and feel all too real. Gotta let em go.

You sound great! You are right. You can't take on the burdens of others.

My journal I know was toxic for me
And giving it up was not as hard as I thought
Yes I am feeling good about beating that bloody monster just if its abit every day
YOU do so so darn good and HAPPY

Yep. Making progress. Today I have given up the journal completely. Again, I don't want others to feel they shouldn't keep a journal. It's only a problem when it becomes a ritual.

Some evening agitation from Luvox. I am having some obsessions, but manageable and the Impartial Observer" is working around the issue. It actually, becomes a worthwhile challenge. Hard work but rewarding.

Kudos to you David for giving up journal and yes I agree for those that do not have the unhealthy Obseesions we do a journal is a good thing to have

Hpoing the evening aggitation will stop soon but you are great with the challenges you have come up against so I know you will handle this as well

Superb day.
Really becoming able to incorporate the CBT. I am able to dispassionately observe the thoughts that have been so intrusive and not associate them with anxiety. Understanding they are not me they are my OCD. They are toxic waste from my Orbital Cortex. They have no basis in reality even if they seem real. Without the journal, which gave them power, the thoughts just seem to vanish if I work around them. Combined with Luvox it's a great way to fight the Devil of OCD.

It is great that you are doing so well with CBT
I was the biggest skeptic about it BUT I do it as well and by the by it does WORK as long as you put self into it and I have and I see you have as well

Yes I agree the journal for me was a power over me

I finally was able to go thru drawrs and and dresser/closests and THROW out ( well donate most of clothes) stuff I have hung onto for many many yrs
For me this was a giant step and Dang I feel empowered by doing so

Keep up doing so great my friend you are truly an inspiration..........

I am gonna start a # 3 thread tomorrow ....lol .....this has been a therapudic one for me for sure ......

Isn't it great sharing these experiences with people that can relate?

This has been another fine day. I love the idea that I can talk back to the OCD. The notion that they are biological thoughts that you can put in perspective is empowering. You don't need those old clothes. Your Impartial Spectator (mindful awareness) understands that. If it builds anxiety then just put it in perspective and embrace the silly thought. Examine it dispassionately with your inner awareness. It is nothing but "Toxic Waste" from your Circular Cortex.

I feel like "Grasshopper" from "Kung Fu."

I went onto "Google Images" and downloaded a picture of a comic book Devil. That's the image I use for the OCD in my head. I put the picture over my desk. Whenever a ridiculous obsession arises I just look at The Devil and laugh at him. My CBT Doc calls the OCD a "traveling slesman." If you buy once they keep returning. Don't buy into the false statements made by your OCD.

I find the book "Brain Lock" so very good. We use it in therapy. Very easy to use by yourself.

My problem today is dizziness from my inner ear problem. Vertigo is not fun. This time of year is when the allergies kick in which effect my ears. Long story, but the dizzy spells are something I've lived with for years. Like OCD. Just another challenge.

I get that vertigo from hearing loss over being given an IV med ( antibiotic) for the pyoderma sores I get for too long a period at a time .......I have a suit against the doc because of it and 2 docs on board stating it IS the cause so even if I win it will go to Caits school fund and I will never ever get the hearing back in my left ear
That has crushed me as I love the sound of birds and other nature things as well as music ya know
Oh well another hurdle
We will overcome my friend for sure

Wow. We have much in common. I lost my hearing in my left ear also. I have Meniere's Disease. In 1996 after all kinds of drug therapy, low salt diets, etc. they had to operate and cut the vestibular nerve to the inner ear. Stopped the vertigo. Also cut off my hearing. Then two years later it shows up in my right ear. I still have 65% hearing in my right ear. When symptoms are bad it goes to about 45%. I will then use a hearing aid.

This week has been difficult. The combination of dizzy spells, Luvox agitation and OCD is nifty. Add to that it looks like I may be relocating for another job. All in all, however, all is well. Progress being made on all fronts.

Get "Brain Lock." Great book.

Glad you are still making progress. Can relate to the awful dizzy spells, I have had a couple of bouts of labyrinthitis in the past which weren't nice at all. Why the re location in the job?? Take care.

I work in radio. Very few people do what I do. If you change jobs you usually change markets. I have been fortunate. Lived here in Dallas/FW for many years. Maybe time to move on.

This is unreal
I have about 65 - 70 % of hearing in right ear as well .....and when I get stressed out it goes down more .......
The medication was my cause for sure and I was told or rather Cait ( daughter) was told by the hearing Doc that an hearing aid wopuld only amplify and make noises or words more muffled am definitely getting second opinion on that one ........

Am going to Bookstore in BIG city today to pick up "Brain Lock" .

Will probably start a part 3 by tomorrow as this is getting long and it may get locked
It is definitely a thread that is being read and helping many even if they do not post .....
So look for the continuation tomorrow k my friend

Increased dosage from 200 to 250 mgs today per Doc's request. Means things are working. Just need more of the same.

I've had a super day. I thought with the increase in the dosage there would be more agitiation. Not really the case. Things go well.

Glad you are doing well on the increased dose. I took 225mgs for a while but now take 150mg and seem to be doing ok on that now. When I increased to 225mg I didn't notice any side effects. Think my body was used to the med by then. So glad to hear about how well you are doing. Take care.

I am posting a little really hit hard with the crohns this time I think it is all due to everything coming up in the next couple of weeks
I have Cait going to Toronto and it will be her first time away from me for that long .....a mothers heart and we are very very close .......anyways
Am keeping up with your posts and progress and will continue to do so
