I have been on 20mg citalapram for five weeks now. Emotionally on average I feel a better. I am starting to enjoy things again and I am eating better. My problem is I still get so freaked out about
being sick or having a major illness. The Most recent is Cancer. None of my blood tests were abnormal but I can't seem to shake it. Part of the problem is I get these aches and pains all over and I don't know if I am just focusing on them to much or what. The other thing is, and I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but, It seems like a can't escape cancer talk. I was watching bones last week and they had a case of a 27 year old died of cancer, Then the whole John Edwards wife thing, I figured I could listen to sports radio and not worry, but the time I listen they are interviewing and 23 pitcher from the Boston Redsox who had cancer. I want to not think about
it , but I can't seem to get away.
My therapist mentioned increasing my dose of Citalapram, because she said My anxiety/stress was really bad when I started seeing her. Does anyone know what the normal dose of this drug is or have thoughts on increasing the dosage?

Your therapist could be right you may need an adjustment of meds
Most a/p ppl have Health Anxiety so you are not alone in this
I would really stop watching shows like that and watch something that keeps mind in a good space
I am sure others will be along to help out '
Sorry I wasnt to much help ........

i know exactlly where u are coming from, i have health anxiety and right now cancer is on my mind as well. i feel like i cant escape the cancer talk as well. if it isnt a commercial on about
it, it's a movie. but it's also hard for me to escape it right now cause my grandma has lymphoma. i have been having some bad panic attacks over it but i must say that for the past few mornings i have not had one so i'm guessing the effexor is starting to work.

This is common in people who suffer with anxiety. They notice every ache, pain, different feeling in their bodies. I have felt this way before but you have to tell yourself that what you are experiencing is just anxiety and it cannot hurt you. I don't think the internet helps with people who suffer health anxiety as symptoms are so broad, you can think you have everything going. I am glad the citalopram is helping you. I hope the anxiety starts to lessen as it kicks in more.

citalopram is about
10 to 60 and generally works better at higher doses, but up it slowly

Yes, the health anxiety is awful. I am a nurse and see people with all kinds of problems and at times I think I am going nuts. I even thought of avoiding patient care but I love taking care of my patients. I am just so afraid of becoming one! The Effexor seems to help with this but it is still there. The dose increase in meds may help.
