Opiates for panic attacks?

a psych told me that narcotics are quite good for severe anxiety and panic attacks and are used in hospitals for severe cases

he agreed that it was possible that some heroin users were partly using it for their anxiety and panic attacks

also if someone has severe pain and is using narcotic painkillers, then stopping them may allow panic attacks and severe anxiety to start up, being no longer under the narcotics control

Harry wasn't advocating it at all; he was just suggesting that some anxiety sufferers end up self-medicating with optiates such as heroin and end up addicts. That's why if someone has a relative who may appear to have an anxiety disorder, they should get them real treatment. Particularly young people (high school, college age) who are exposed to these drugs may end up in trouble if they're not careful.

When my grandfather was dying, he became extremely anxious. Since he was terminal anyway they treated with morphine even though he wasn't in pain. It's common. However, unless someone is dying, opiates are far from an ideal treatment for anxiety even in a medical setting because the withdrawal is so severe.

AS most know I have several debilitating Diseases for which Heavy Opiates are RX for

 

I have NEVER found that they have helped my a/p or attacks in any way

That is me however.........

I basically do take a deriviative of this drug Harry speaks of so as I said it had/ has ........doesnt ever help my attacks

The Valium or ativan  does ,........as well as self coping skills learnt thru members and thru Harry.....you ....porridge ..many others Victoria..ECT....

 

 

I too know D that Harry is well educated in this disorder and dedicated to helping those with it work there way towards getting better.......

However it does go against the rules about illicit drug use....

Just a suggesstion
Those opiates are no doubt out of date / expired so you can take them to Pharmacy that u deal with and /or flush them down toilet

I learnt hard way with all my opiates .use to keep them in bedroom on my dresser was gone away and My friend I ahve mentioned that is now using them the wrong way came in with son and stole everyone of them...
they between the 2 would use needles to inject 300 to 400 mgs of morphine daily....

I have not nor will not talk to her or her son since this happened
They actually had the moxy to BRAG about it all over town
I did get a police report done but did not say who I knew it was
THAT was the only way I was able to get my meds replaced .......

Morphine and or Oxycontin will make me nauseated at times but I do not take both together EVER>.....

Actually this could be an informative thread as long as it does stay with guidlines ya know
